At the time this was recorded Robert Putnam had yet to publish his study on effects of diversity regarding immigrant communities vis a vis indigenous. Being left wing, socialist I believe, he was shocked by its conclusions. So much so that he had to review the study in detail and delayed when he otherwise might have published. Thank God he was honest enough to finally have it published. However it so bothered him that subsequent to its publication he wrote an opinion refuting the very study he had so meticulously conducted though it should be noted that his refutation did not use any of the data found in that study to justify his critique. This sounds like an intellectual with a guilty conscience trying to make amends so his closest circle of friends would continue to extend their dinner invitations.

Everyone's opinion on any given subject is important. Act like Watson, it doesn´t consider any opinion stupid. It just gives different values to different opinions. And always keep in mind that the most valuable answers might not be that valuable for long.
