I'm tempted to go back to PCs because it's a joke the performance difference between Ryzen + Nvidia vs Intel + AMD.

In Vietnam I see those 3000s everywhere at very competent price (for our third-world countries "depressing standard"), starting at ~650$ for a 3070. And for Christ's sake my friends around South East Asia told me that people were selling NEW cards for as much as 50% discount on prices (some even sold 5700XT for as low as 300$). I doubt you folks can get any of 3000s OR even RX 6000s soon as our scalpers are REALLY into the game... I myself wait till December to see any more discount then get either a 5600XT or 1660 Super.

Im all for power efficiency. I mean 350 watt GPU + 150 watt CPU you are talking about a system with screen that can pull 550-650 watts of power thats quite a bit of heat extra in your room. In the winter thats fine but in the summer its awesull unless you have airconditioning. 100-200 watt less is quite noticable in room temperature when gaming in a smaller room. Just like AMD did with the 290X and Fury X, nVidia pushed Ampere a bit to much for my liking. But we can always undervolt :)

Ah. Nice to see the 2070 used still more expensive than I brought mine brand new for on Black Friday 2019 ($280) I know its discontinued - but I guess that's why it was so heavily discounted last year. It's a stop gap. I'll see what the 3070 offers and what AMD can do price wise. My worry about AMD is (and always has been) driver support. My last AMD card - a 280X, was a nightmare for drivers. I had BSOD's, game crashes and some games not working as intended for months until the fixed the drivers were fixed. I loved my Radeon 9800 XT back in the day. (as well as my FX 57 CPU). Would love a modern combo like that today.

I'd say $300-$350 for a RTX2080 for 1440p gaming is a pretty decent price-point. I'm sticking with my 2080 for the next year or so, it'll play the backlog of my game library with easy @1440p.

It is obvious that the gaming PC space is really hindered by the divide of "PC Monitors" vs. "TV sets" (which in my understanding is artificial since 2019) - in terms of HDR, HDMI VVR etc. - but what I don't understand why TV makers ignore DP (e.g. also still not available on TVs marketed hard for gamers) - it is licence free, supports all features and should be an easy addition on practically all monitors. It is a pretty bizarre situation - as a PC gamer it's like living under 'communist conditions' - you can't or shouldn't buy high-end component at the moment (no 2080, no 30x0 cards) - and still have to wait for the AMD offerings which may (also) not be available to purchasable before December. If my 1080TI died today, I couldn't get a reasonable replacement and had to use an old GTX 970 for the next months.

I honestly think that if you find a good graphics card for a good price, you should jump on it. For example, I think a 2080 Ti is worth it if you can get one between 400 to 500. 3070 isn't going to completely beat the 2080 Ti in my opinion and the fact that it's fast in Doom Eternal, doesn't really say much. I'm sure however that the RX6000 series cards are going to be quite good and probably even beat the 3070 thus 2080 Tis are going to be flooded on the market and people will be buying these like hot cakes.
Rudy_Dstroys Сарын өмнө
1080 Ti are good but already falling behind with next gen games, now with the 2080 Ti falling between 500 to 600 (starting to see them mostly in the 500 range now) I would suggest getting a 2080 Ti instead of a 1080 Ti....

I just purchased a Gigabyte 5600XT (which I consider the RX580 successor) for AU $429.00 . I paid AU $389.00 for my RX580 in my 2017 mid range build. So $40 AU more than the "last gen" equivalent. The 5600 XT was discounted down from earlier in the year when these cards were closer to $600.00 AU. I bought now because I doubt the new NAVI 2 "6600 XT" skew will be much below AU $600.00 when it hits stores. I plan on 1080p gaming for the next 3 years and my RX 580 basically couldn't run Tarkov. I'm happily gaming 90/100fps in Tarkov now and will run Cyberpunk on my display 1080p high settings no problem. That's my take anywayz! Happy Days!

"Don't build a PC right now". Well... too late. I'm building a new one right now. However I'm keeping my current CPU and GPU until the new ones are readily available. Hopefully a 5900X or 5950X CPU drops and a 3080 20GB GPU. So perhaps sometime mid-next year when they actually have some availablity. Does that seem sensible?

Counterpoint to “Now’s not the time to build “ - that’s literally what Hardware Unboxed along with every other tech blogger has been saying for years. Nonstop. Year round. It’s ALWAYS a horrible time to buy ... it’s always too pricey second hand... and yesterday was always better to buy... or in the future. Just not “now”. All that has shown me over the past 20 years of hearing this rhetoric - buy what you can afford. And resell it later. Value will stay. One way of another. It’s always the worst time ever. If you ask tech bloggers.

I would be a LOT more excited about the advancements in our current video cards if they would just build a damn monitor to our basic specifications. Every company in existence is turning out 27inch garbage. After owning a 32" monitor for 5 years a 27" looks like a postage stamp. Is it too much to ask to get a 32" 4K monitor @ 120+Hz? They make 27" 4K monitors all day long with 144hz+ but in 32" for the last 3 years it's only 60Hz. Something that has just been enraging me for YEARS now. I'll be so glad when this 27" idiocy is over with.

Asking for AMD/Radeon GPUs to catch and surpass Nvidia on just this next RDNA2 launch is a daunting if not impossible task given the recent 5700XT/5600XT driver stability issues making it a hard sell but, if the RTX 30 series quantities keep staying low or price gouged by scalpers then RDNA2 cards may be all we'll have to choose from :/

In Canada, while I rather wait for newer mid tier cards, I was watching the price 2080 series stock for price cuts. They dropped 50 to 100 each, then just disappeared. There is no way they sold that fast. Does nvidia just take them back? They never dropped enough to be a good deal. Kinda douchey move. Only 2070 and 2060 left, or a very few full price 2080s.

*RTX3080 vs GTX1080* If you have a GTX1080 or similar and are on the fence then here's my opinion... I game at 2560x1440 on a 60Hz monitor. I just played Shadow of the Tomb Raider at a solid 60FPS with only one or two settings slightly turned down. Gaming at 4K or adding ray-tracing would have very minimal impact on my experience... that holds true for most of my games... I still think it's too early to make the jump. Ray-Tracing is still tanking systems below 60FPS, and while both ray-tracing and DLSS are interesting the impact to my game catalogue is just not enough. This my sound weird, but I think I'm going to buy an XBox Series X and hook it up to my 2560x1440 monitor through the HDMI connection in which case I'll get upscaled 1920x1080. So the XBSX will render at 4K or whatever, downscale to 1080p then my monitor will scale that to 2560x1440... which will still look great for most games... and then I'll eventually upgrade to a suitable 4K/120Hz monitor with HDMI v2.1 inputs but not until they are cheaper (and available)... *if high FPS gaming is what you want, then currently the AVERAGE FPS improvement from GTX1080 to RTX3080 is 2.2x at 2560x1440 resolution. So if your average is 50FPS in a demanding title you should hit 110FPS average now (assuming good CPU etc). **but if you are mostly gaming at 2560x1440 at 60Hz I would strongly suggest holding off for another year or two. Or at least think long and hard about which games you play and exactly how the new graphics card will benefit you... in my case, it would simply have a minimal benefit since I'm not planning to buy new games and the ones I do play run great already.

Many people claim Nvidia has to squeeze every bit of performance out of Ampere to compete with the upcoming RDNA2. But wouldn't Nvidia have designed a separate less compute focused architecture on a TSMC 7nm die for the Geforce/Quadro lineup if they were afraid they couldn't compete?

*RTX3080 and room temperature... * Guys, if your room gets HOT like mine does (windows closed in Winter or when AC used in summer) then think carefully about the power draw of your graphics card. My GTX1080 uses a little under 200W itself. My total system power draw using my R9-3900x etc when GAMING is roughly 300W... it gets too hot already sometimes and adding just 100W to that would make it unbearable for longer gaming sessions... Now imagine that your CPU draws a little bit more power than mine, AND you have a GTX3080 that may draw at least 150W more. So let's call that 200W more power drawn which is the same as a 200W space heater plunked into an already warm room... If that's a non-issue then just ignore this. The electricity costs are not going to be that significant relative to the hardware investment, but ROOM TEMPERATURE is still a factor for a lot of people.

I used to upgrade every year after watching videos like this but then realised in the real world you'll notice no difference upgrading to the latest graphics card. Makes you wonder if these channels are sponsored by Nvidia and AMD. The RX 5700 will give you 100+ fps on any game in the highest settings which makes buying these new cards for a few fps pointless. Your eyes won't notice any difference.

GPUs are a different beast than CPUs because mindshare is more massive on gpus than cpus. The R9 290x was faster than the 780 Ti but most people bought the 780 Ti. So why? Mindshare. Nvidia is perceived, rightly in some cases and wrongly in others as the more premium GPU company. That mindhsare has gotten to be so massive it is why the 2000 series came out which such a high price. So the nvidia fans are the ones who really created this gpu price problem. You are of course going to have people who will only buy intel because of mindshare but that mindshare is less of an impact on cpus than gpus. Because of that massive mindshare problem people ran out an bought or tried to buy ampere cards even when all the professional reviewers said...wait to buy. Wait to see what both companies offer so you have an informed buyer decision...but mindshare took over and many just did not listen and this time around AMD looks like it might just edge out nvidia in gaming performance this generation....

Question: why are you comparing 2080 and 3080 and not 2080 TI and 3080? 3080 is the 102 chip like the 2080 ti.. 3070 is the 104 chip so basically the 2080 equivalent. Nvidia changed their naming schema to make the gains better. PS: makes the price difference even more insane..
